MMMM 2016 welcomes imposition of safeguard duty on Steel industry

According to the recent announcement by the Indian government to protect ailing steel industry is welcomed by whole Steel fraternity in India. As per the big players of Steel industry, it is a big relief. Experts believe that the intention of the government is to restrict cheaper imports taking place from China.


Welcoming the move, Essar Steel India Chief Commercial Officer H Shivramkrishnan said the industry has been seeking long term measures to contain dumping of steel.


"The final findings confirm the injury to the domestic steel industry due to increased imports and the extension of Safeguard Duty till September 2018 is a right step and we welcome this move," he added in his interview given to indiatodayin.


Meanwhile, Union Minister of Steel & Mines Narendra Singh Tomar tweeted that: "GOI is committed to safeguard the interests of all stakeholders in the steel industry. Let’s all work together for a stronger India." Indian Institute of Metals- Delhi Chapter and ITEI, being the organisers of MMMM is optimistic about the growth of the industry as per the stir that steel slowdown has created, is by no means much ado about nothing.
