New equipment with volumetric crystallization at initial stage of batch steel casting has been worked out as a principally new technology, which is especially effective at manufacture of ingots and billets with large diameter cross section, for example, forging ingots or expendable electrodes. The essence of the technology consists of full or partial volumetric crystallization of steel portions that is being created thanks to heat transferring from liquid steel to mould walls in lateral and axial directions to cooling drum. At the next stage, cutting-off for all cross section of the mould occurs at one of its ends, whereas through another end of the mould solidified fully or partially portions of steel are being withdrawn and new portions of liquid steel are being brought on their place. They are being connected at so-lidifi cation with previously withdrawn portionsand in such way continuous ingot is being casted. Experimental tests of the new technology with use of pilot ingot with 160 mm diameter of cross section are run at casting plant. Trial consignment have gave evidence about homogeneous structure through all cross section of casted ingots. Basic technical solutions, including design of main units for ingots with 850 mm diameter of cross section and industrial casting machine with 60 tons steel pouring ladle are worked out in accordance with the new technology; calculations of rate, output and heat transferring parameters are presented as well.
