Intensive mining activities in complicated geological, climatic, geomechanical and geotechnical conditions, considering quality degradation in mineral deposits, require innovative technologies. This article discusses application of automated technologies in open pit coal mining with high overburden benches. Design and introduction of adaptable mine-technical systems in varied conditions of mining with automated control eliminates risks of accidents due to human factor, qualitatively changes structural parameters of open pit mines, reduces emission of stationary and mobile pollution sources due to mining and preserves enabling environment in mining regions. Automation of mines is the most promising trend of development in open pit mining geotechnology towards compensation of aggravating effects of the mineral sector of Russia.
