Strata movement induced by underground mining is one of the most complex geomechanical processes, which is impossible to describe in the framework of the currently existing rock mass models. In the meanwhile, this process constitutes serious danger to residents of undermined urban lands and to mine personnel. Moreover, strata movement governs efficiency of mining and potential economic losses connected with undermining of ground surface infrastructure. The ecological impact of strata movement is also high. This study aims to develop an analytical approach to strata movement prediction, including reliable determination of strata movement parameters at the stage of mine design. The study extensively used methods of analytical investigation, mathematical modeling, as well as generalization and statistical processing of experimental data. The authors propose the method for calculating displacements, strains and angular directions in strata movement induced by ground surface undermining by determining assignability of boundary conditions along the originating sliding surface. On the whole, the proposed method of the early calculation of strata movement and its regular patterns makes it possible to determine deformation of rock mass at the stage of mine planning, which improves reliability of the mine design choices.
