Abstract

The article describes situation in geological exploration in Kyrgyzstan and exposes the mineral resource potential of the country. Geological service is an ever-important element of economic development of Kyrgyzstan. The strategy of geological exploration has drastically changed with transition to the marketoriented economy. The scope of geological exploration embraces the most promising areas, with the top priority laid upon operating mines, facilities under planning and design, as well as localities to be economically advanced. Kyrgyzstan possesses an appreciable mineral resource potential. At the modern stage of industrial development in the Republic and its international economic relations, gold bulls as a currency valuable to govern the economic status of the country. Geologists of the Republic achieved significant gains in exploration and prospecting of gold in the Soviet period. As of today, more than 2700 primary gold deposits have been discovered. Furthermore, a few tens of placers, hundreds of bullion gold sites and lithogeochemical areas of gold are stricken. The author emphasizes the role of Gornyi Zhurnal in dissemination of operational experience and theoretical skills in mining. Since 2001 Gornyi Zhurnal publishes special-subject issues on mining industry in the CIS countries. This informational service envelops 9 countries in the CIS, including Kyrgyzstan. The regular issues of the journal present selections of articles devoted to different companies or mines in the CIS countries, specifically to celebrate anniversary dates of their performance.
