Gornyi Zhurnal
Mining Journal issue of April 2019 groups its articles into special sections under key headings.
The issue opens with a contribution by Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences K. N. Trubetskoy and co-authors. The article spotlights a geotechnology paradigm in underground mining of kimberlite pipes and the methods of dynamic control over secondary stress state in rocks. This R&D trend is supported by the Russian Science Foundation under the theme: creation of natural-and-technological systems of solid mineral mining based on convergent technologies.
A few articles of the issue discuss enhancement of safety and efficiency in coal mining. The scope of the detailed analysis embraces safety and energy efficiency of longwalls, phenomena caused by rock pressure in mining in new coal fields in Kuzbass, numerical modeling of top coal caving in fully-mechanized longwalls, research findings on formation dynamics and management of coal processing waste, etc.
It is worthy of learning about the outcomes produced by the first meeting of the Technical Board on Geomechanics held in March 2019 at the NUST MISIS College of Mining. The Board directs at initiating and shaping a professional association in the Russian Federation. This association should be granted competency of a Geomechanical Consortium appointed to solve nonconventional applied problems of any complexity in geomechanics. The Board is hosted and sponsored by the Research Center for Applied Geomechanics and Convergent Technologies in Mining at NUST MISIS, RMS MINING—consulting company in mining in Russia and the Ore and Metals Publishing House. The Board experts have endorsed the idea of originating an international center for training of geomechanics engineers at the NUST MISIS College of Mining and organizing an annual international conference on geomechanics.
