Gornyi Zhurnal
The April 2021 issue of Gornyi Zhurnal commemorates the 90th anniversary of VNII Galurgii—one of the oldest existing and continuously operating industry institutions.
VNII Galurgii features an immense innovative potential and a mature infrastructure to perform exploration, mining and processing of minerals.
The issue opens with an article on history of this research and design institute for mineral salt production, and on the scope of its research activities targeted to delve deeply into problems connected with mineral salt and brines.
This Journal’s issue also describes the current R&D projects of the Institute. These include the Upper Kama salt extraction using cutter–loaders, technology of surface seismic exploration of Upper Kama deposit, technology of shallow seismic exploration using a seismic exploder to generate elastic vibrations, as well as application of GIS technologies and software products in operation of multivariate mathematical statistics apparatus. The retrospective review of potassium ore processing using flotation and chemical technologies is presented. The scope of the research aimed to improve potassium concentrate quality encompasses dedusting and vacuum–crystallization technologies, column flotation, and new reagent modes for flotation in saturated solutions of potassium chloride and sodium chloride. The new reagent mode has been tested on a full scale, in processing of potassium ore of varied mineralogical content, with high number of slimy silicate–carbonate and anhydrate insoluble impurities, etc.
