The article provides a brief history of the State Enterprise “Donetsk Institute for research, design work and engineering services in the refractory industry” (“DonNIGRI”) (Ukraine). "DonNIGRI" is a head attested organization, which has a strategic importance for the Ukrainian economy. This enterprise is a research platform for the complex solutions of tasks of industry and mining sector.
There are given the main activities of the Institute and results of carried out work in and around the scientific and technical support of open-cast mining of refractory and ceramic raw materials, sands and non-metallic minerals. "DonNIGRI" proposed the concept of technical re-equipment of enterprises at the modern level for the extraction of refractory, ceramic and fluxdolomite raw materials. This concept has the economic reasonability.
