This article gives the historical information about the foundation of Mirny Polytechnic Institute (branch) of Yakutian State University in 1994. Nowadays, Mirny Polytechnic Institute become one of educational, methodological, scientific, technical and cultural centers of the Sakha Republic. The Institute has a developed educational and laboratory base and qualified teaching personnel (82 lecturers, including 12 Doctors of Sciences and 40 Candidates of Sciences). Near 800 students are studying at Mining Faculty and Humanities and Sciences Faculty of the Institute. Near 60% of these students have the full-time course of study. Students can choose 7 specialities and 4 Bachelor's degree programs: mathematics; foreign philology; jurisprudence; mining; underground mining of mineral deposits; power supply; electromechanics; electrification and automation of mining enterprises; mining machinery and equipment; applied mathematics and information science; oil and gas engineering. 2095 specialists, including 1276 mining engineers, have graduated from Mirny Polytechnic Institute since 1994. Nowadays, many of these specialists are working successfully at «ALROSA» JSC and reached high professional level. Since 2009, within the project of development of network technologies, professors from leading Russian universities have been lecturing and carrying out tutorials for students of the Institute. The Institute establishes the scientific relations and collaborations both with branch and academician institutes of Russia and near-abroad countries, and with large industrial enterprises of Yakutia. A great attention is payed to attraction of students to scientific-research work. Annual All-Russian scientific-practical conference «Young people and science-technical progress in modern world» has been carried out since 2009. Students of the Institute undergo a study course in universities of Sweden and Norway within the programs of international relations. Results of scientific researches are repeatedly reported at various forums (including foreign ones). Mirny Polytechnic Institute has good prospects for future, connected with further industrial mastering of richest natural resources of Western Yakutia.
