One of the promising raw materials is vein quartz used in silicon production for manufacture of wide range of modern materials for microelectronics, helioenergetics, optics, machine engineering, metallurgy, pharmacy and other branches of industry. The growing demand for silicon products call for promotion of expansion of quartz supply. The objective of boosting silicon production to support helioenergetics is particularly topical for the North Caucasus with its congenial climate. For example, the Republic of North Ossetia–Alania has 300 days of sunshine annually. This Republic was the first in the North Caucasus to launch exploration and appraisal of quartz. The exploration work in partnership with the authors of the present article has been carried out since 2012. It is found that coarse-grained milk-white vein quartz in Fiagdon area is of the highest practical interest. Morphogenetic, typomorphic, mineralogical-petrographical and chemical-technological characteristics of the vein quartz are studied in detail. The time–space distribution of quartz veins is revealed, and their formation conditions and thermobarodynamic characteristics are investigated. The work has been done under support of the project No. 3851 "The technique of evaluation and rational usage of raw material, water and biological resources in the technogeneous area of the Republic of North Osetiya — Alaniya", executing in the framework of the basic part of the state task. |
