Purposeful cultivation of herbaceous, shrubbery and woody plants on overburden dumps (phyto-rehabilitation) is one of the most efficient ways of restoration of lands disturbed by mining. The relevant questions are: estimate of reclamative value of plants, characterization of plant growth and development, selection of cultures best suitable for phytorehabilitation depending on their eco-biological features and on properties of rocks composing dumps. The research had two stages. The first stage was inspection of self-overgrown dumps at Lebedinsky Mining-and-Processing Integrated Works and definition of best-naturalized plants. To expand the assortment of plants selected for phyto-rehabilitation based on their eco-biological properties, the species were seeded on test sites on Lebedinsky MPIW dumps. The vegetation observations were carried out for two years. A list of species of plants recommended for phyto-rehabilitaton of mine dumps in the Belgorod Region was compiled as a result. |
