This article reviews the current aspects of sampling methods for product variety with determination of content of non-ferrous and precious metals, developed by “Gipronickel” Institute in cooperation with industrial enterprises and certified in Rostekhregulirovaniye (Federal Agency for Technical Regulation and Metrology). These products include waste granulated slag, formed during copper-nickel matte obtaining in electric slag cleaning furnaces at Nadezhda Metallurgical Plant (Polar Division of MMC “Norilsk Nickel”), and platinum-palladium concentrate produced at Kola MMC. Peculiarities of the processes applied at the plants, available highprecision sampling and sample-preparation equipment were taken into account during methodology development, together with physical and chemical properties of sampled products. Modern research methods were also used including determination of phase composition of the products via SEM and X-ray Microprobe. In order to process the obtained experimental data, state-of-the-art methods of mathematical treatment were employed. For example, mean square errors of granulated slag sampling results were determined by means of disperse analysis, where together with use of accuracy factors regulated by the Standard GOST 14180–80 resulted from sampling and sample preparation. The ‘interaction’ factor was applied, characterizing the effect of sampling and sample preparation interdependence on the overall measurement accuracy. Specific details of the issue settling related to the control procedure for composition of secondary waste metals at the plant processing copper-bearing feed with precious metal recovery were defined.
