To solve the problems of the common European policy in the field of climate improvement, the iron and steel industry chooses the alternative ways both in technological processes and in usage of technological gases, that are directed on substantial production efficiency rise and lowering of the volume of harmful emissions. However, it is too early to wait for serious cutting of energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions at present time, taking into account the existing level of metallurgical equipment. It can be achieved at integrated works via utilization of waste gases for chemical industry in the framework of the projects Carbon2Chem and Steelanol. This paper describes steel making from primary raw materials via iron ore direct reduction and charging of obtained metallized products in a blast furnace. Thereby it is possible to decrease consumption of carbonbearing reducing agents. As for steel making using secondary raw materials (based on metal scrap), it is noted that electric steel making technology is permanently under optimization.
