The industrial branches of mining, metallurgy and petroleum in Russia call for innovation, which should first of all cover education and training as the current level of technological advance requires highly qualified and experienced professionals with managerial skills, knowledge of market situation and innovative vision for industrial challenges. With this end in view, affinity for a profession should be instilled in talented children all over Russia while they are still pupils. This field of activity is successfully exploited by Russia’s first Inter-University Academic Center for Occupation Navigation in Mining and Geology under auspices of the Vernadsky State Geological Museum, NUST–MISIS, Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas and the Sergo Ordzhonikidze Russian State University for Geological Prospecting. The Center focuses on finding and training personnel reserve for the science and industry from among talented children and youth. The Center offers a communication environment adapted to new challenges in education. Natural conditions are created for the harmonic development, upbringing and enlightenment of children. The interactive approaches and innovative methodical techniques are used to inspire involvement and voluntariness in professional occupation. The innovative strategy proposed in the article integrates methodical approaches and techniques that create the modern communication environment towards continuous education of children and youth in the field of geology and nature management, building of the ecology-friendly ideology and vocationoriented guidance in the mining, geology and petroleum industries. The activities of the Center contribute to the school–university–industry interconnection and promote significance and status of engineering universities and occupations. The alliance of the leading engineering universities and the natural science museum, as well as the education of children and youth using innovative interactive approaches will shape up the cardinally new communication environment for the continuous training and enlightenment in the fi eld of geosciences and for the mining and geology oriented education.
