The article focuses on the solution of the problem connected with accidents in horizontal directional drilling. Rocks in well walls can be saturated with drilling mud, which reduces their strength. Cavings can initiate mechanical effect on well walls, and drill cuttings mostly remain in wells. Accidents go along with breaking of well walls and with seizure of the drilling tool. This problem actualizes the use of an emergency tool to pull drill strings in horizontal or inclined wells. There are a few scenarios of pulling a stuck tool, but they are not always implementable because of risk of partial or total loss of the expensive drilling tool. The authors describe some practical solutions and parallel drilling methods. The parallel drilling techniques lack methods to pull stuck equipment. The technology of pulling a stuck drilling tool by means of drilling a parallel well with the subsequent release of the seizure is proposed. The stability criterion is proposed for drilling a parallel well along a preset path based on the dynamic analysis. Applicability of the proposed equipment was proved in testing of a pilot suspended emergency drill unit, which ended with the release of a drill string from seizure. In view of high prices of drill rods, outfitting, drilling tools and navigation equipment, the harm of such accidents can total tens billion rubles. The proposed design allows great reduction of operational risks and execution periods of complex critical operations in horizontal directional drilling. |
