The increasing depth of mining operations at the Talnakh and Oktyabrskoye deposits requires more reliable approaches to backfill design under rockburst-prone conditions. Poor backfilling can lead to deterioration of the stress-strain state of the rock mass. This study proposes an analytical express methodology for estimating the required strength of cemented backfill based on stope geometry, loading conditions and geomechanical parameters without laboratory testing or computationally intensive numerical modelling. The importance of this work lies in the development of an additional method for assessing backfill operations that eliminates laboratory testing and numerical modeling. The methodology integrates caving arch theory, beam stability analysis, tributary area concepts and zoned backfill strength design into a unified engineering framework. The proposed algorithm includes calculation of caving parameters, determination of required backfill strength, selection of mixture composition and verification of the «pillar-backfill» system. The novelty of this work lies in its integrated approach, which integrates geological, geomechanical, and technological factors into an assessment system. A case study from the Komsomolsky mine demonstrates the practical applicability of the approach. The proposed methodology is intended for preliminary engineering assessment and may be refined through future field validation.
