In forsite research results of the analysis of the current state and key aspects of mining and metallurgical industry of Kazakhstan are presented. An assessment of the role of the mineral sector of the economy to improve national competitiveness is conducted. Trends and factors of the metallurgical complex are examined and recommendations for the development of priority industries are issued. As a result of studying the state of the material and raw material base of basic metals and some solid minerals of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the analysis of the competitiveness of mining products has been done, the role of the mineral sector of the economy, which is of great importance in enhancing the competitiveness of national economy, has been identified as well as the tendencies of development of large integrated corporate structures in the mineral resources sector, representing a single financial-industrial complex.
