This paper describes the main development stages of geological and geographic faculty and its part in the specialists training for mining production on the territory of Kursk Magnetic Anomaly.

One of the main tasks of geological and geographic faculty of Belgorod State National Research University is to train the highqualified specialists for working on enterprises of Kursk Magnetic Anomaly. This important task is supported by administration of Belgorod region, because the extraction and processing of iron ores occupies a dominant position in economics of Belgorod region.

The geological and geographic faculty exists as a structural division of Belgorod State National Research University since September 1, 2002. It is structurally represented by three chairs:

-the chair of nature development and land cadastre;

-the chair of geography and geoecology;

-the chair of engineering geology and hydrogeology.

The faculty formed a clear structure of the educational process, including the training of students on six specialities and six Master's programs.

There is also realized the post graduate training in the form of postgraduate courses, also on six professional directions.

A long-term development prospect of the economics of Belgorod region, and, in the first place — the subsoils development, provides for the development of already existing and new iron ore deposits. This task will require an expansion of a list for new specializations and training areas on geological and geographic faculty. Since 2013, it will be opened an intake of students on the specialty "Mine surveying" and on the bachelor's program "Cartography and geoinformatics". Future plans include the opening of new directions for the student’s training in the field of mineral raw materials processing and mining ecology.
