Chernye Metally
The last (December) issue of "Chernye Metally" journal in 2012 has been published.
Conventional section "Development of metallurgy in Russia and CIS countries" is opened in this issue by the paper "Prospects of production of high-strength steel reinforced bars made of high-carbon steels" by V. V. Chukin, G. S. Gun, A. G. Korchunov and M. A. Polyakova.The complex of studies on the possibility of using the micro-alloyed and high-carbon steel grades for production high-strength steel reinforced bars of large diameter (9.6 mm) is carried out. It is shown that use of the patented billet makes it possible to replace micro-alloyed steel by high-carbon steel with achievement of high level of mechanical properties of finished reinforced steel bars via combination of thermomechanical processing of high-carbon steels.
The section is continued by the article "Computer-aided design of hot-rolling technology of high-strength steels for automotive industry at different types of wide hot strip mills" by M. I. Rumyantsev, I. G. Shubin, A. O. Popov, A. V Gorbunov and A. G. Vetrenko. It presents experience of simulation and computer-aided design software for hot rolling in order to develop production of high strength steel with significant level of plastic properties. Roll-pass design of different profiles from modern high-strength steels for the automotive industry under wide hot strip mill 2000 at Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works were suggested for implementation.
R. L. Shatalov in his article "Managing strip transversal stability in metal rolling" analyzed efficiency of managing strip transversal stability via varying of metal tension in intra-stand space of a continuous group of rolling stands that has been estimated for the conditions of finishing group of 2000 wide hot strip mill of Novolipetsk Iron & Steel Works.
Two publications in the iron and steel section are devoted to using of the new bell-less top for charge materials at two blast furnaces of voestalpine Stahl GmbH and their practical efficiency and to oscillation phenomena during the AOD process with development of a numerical model which is able to calculate the flow-induced oscillations.
In Rolling section, W. Haupt, J. Kuhlmann and C. Sasse examined economical production with electrolytic tinning lines with soluble anodes in the conditions of Shougang Jingtang that has ordered two electrolytic tinning lines (manufactured by SMS Siemag company) with soluble anodes for the economical and environment-friendly production of altogether 475,500 t of high-quality tinplate. Apart from sophisticated mechanical equipment, the lines are distinguished by a highly developed process section which itself contains a large number of innovative equipment items.
The main lectures presented at the XII Congress of Steelmakers have been observed by G.N. Elansky, the head of the organizing committee of this event.
The issue contains as usual the articles on power engineering and environment protection, scientific-research and engineering works, control and measuring devices, economics and finances and metallurgical history.
