Chernye Metally
Conventional section "Development of metallurgy in Russia and CIS countries" is presented by three articles.
A. V. Kolobov, E. S. Fedotov, N. L. Lisunets, A.G. Radyuk and A.I. Vinogradovin their paper "Simulation of slitting of coiled steel at multi-disk shears of coil slitting lines" examined slitting of coiled steel to tube strip billets of 10ХСНД (10KhSND) steel for Tikhvinsky freight car building plant and showed that it can be used as generalized model of the process of slitting of coiled steel at multi-disk shears during different production and adjusting stages at coil slitting lines.
Specialists from the Moscow University of Science and Technology "MISiS" A. V. Kochanov and S.M. Gorbatyuk investigated the typical construction of device for strengthening of cold-rolling mill rolls with diameter from 193 to 265 mm. Technological regime of strengthening was worked out, specified, energy-power and speed parameters, providing a high quality of the roll’s surface and cold-hardened layer depth.
The authors from Chelyabinsk, Moscow and Kamensk-Uralsky - B. V. Barichko, A. P. Shlyamnev, A. A. Bakunova, Ya. I. Kosmatskiy, D. N. Buvaev - presented the article "Analysis of quality parameters of tubes from stainless steel". Investigations have been conducted on the specimens of cold-deformed tubes from 03Kh17N9AM3 steel and their results have confirmed the conclusions done by the specialists of the Central Scientific and Research Institute of Ferrous Metallurgy (TsNIIchermet) that new steel is characterized by high corrosion resistance against pitting forming and corrosion under stresses, in addition to the good complex of strength and ductile properties as well as sufficient workability during metal forming.
The articles translated from German in the "Iron and Steel Making" section included the large review "Electric steel production in Europe - efficient and challenging", the paper about options of usage of the new electric arc furnace S/EAF for continuous operation, providing high efficiency and productivity (by SMS Siemag), and the paper about the new concept of the unit of Siemens VAI Metals Technologies that incorporates the processes of injection under pressure of desulphurizers (e.g. lime and calcium carbide) with dosing volumetric charge of magnesium granulate according to the patented technology Simetal-Feldhaus.
Other articles are devoted to heat treatment ("Recent trends in hot dip galvanizing of advanced high-strength steel at Thyssen Krupp Steel Europe" by M. Norden, M. Blumenau, A. Zaum, K. J. Peters and R. Schönenberg), power engineering ("Power management: challenge of time" by M. Van Hazerbrouck), control processes ("Warehouse management system eliminates bottlenecks" by S. Mechmann and T. Tönjes. One more review "Actual trends in the refractories industry" is presented by P. Quirmbach from DIFK German Institute of Refractories and Ceramic.
Historic section observes 850th anniversary of Freiberg and 50 years of operation of Duisburg-Beeckerwerth metallurgical works.
