Chernye Metally
The 10th issue of "Chernye Metally" journal (2013) is opened by the large insert devoted to wire production industry in Russia and CIS countries. The readers can find here the comprehensive articles devoted to the history of wire production industry, about its current state and prospects, problems and achievements. The authors are presented by the enterprises and research centers from Moscow and St. Petersburg, Magnitogorsk and Volgograd, Beloretsk, Zhlobin and Dnepropetrovsk. Two reviews are presented ny B.M. Yarantsev, the president of "Prommetiz" association.
The paper "Small-sized high-speed technological units for supplying metal coatings on wire" by B.M. Zuev and D.B. Zuev observes the main parameters of copper-coated welding wire and galvanized low-carbon steel wire. Small-sized technological units for high-speed contact copper coating of welding wire with diameter 0.8-2.0 mm and high-speed galvanizing of low-carbon heat-treated wire with 1.0 mm diameter are presented.
V.F. Danenko and his colleagues from Volgograd State Technical University described in their article the model of drawing process for bimetallic wire from carbon steel and 12Kh18N10T stainless steel. The bimetallic wire had a shell of 12Cr18Ni10Ti austenitic steel and the carbon steel core with a carbon content of 0.10%, 0.45% and 0.80. Individual reduction values according to the drawing schedule made 17-25%. The measures to reduce the likelihood of defects forming in the bimetallic wire after drawing are suggested by the authors.
Another paper by V.F. Danenko and the specialists from the same iniversity and Volgogradsky affiliate of "Severstal-Metiz" is devoted to fabrication and operation of steel ropes twisted from shaped wire with Z- and Ω-profiles providing better wire adhesion in the layers and more efficient isage of rope cross section.
A.V. Vedeneev, V.V. Ezhov and A.I. Kuzmenko (Byelorussian Steel Works) presented investigation of productivity of rope spooling machines and suggested 4-fold twisting module for its increase. Among others, construction of the spooling machine based on the principle of multiple twisting has been realized for increase of productivity of a core spooling module.
Another paper "Influence of wire rod structure, subjected to thermo-mechanical treatment, on qualitative parameters of high-strength bead wire" is a joint work of Byelorussian Steel Works (Zhlobin) and Institute of Ferrous Metallurgy (Dnepropetrovsk). The subject of the paper is high-strength bead wire with diameter 1.6 mm that has been fabricated via direct drawing (without intermediate heat treatment) from sorbitized wire rod of 80 steel with diameter 5.5 mm. Initial wire rod has been subjected to thermo-mechanical treatment, including controlled accelerated water cooling down to temperature above Ac3 with subsequent intensive cooling at Stelmore transporter.
The specialists from "Intron" company (V.V. Sukhorukov et al.) discussed the problem of safe operation of hot metal hoisting ropes in metallurgical works. The aim of paper is to develop the rope monitoring policy that includes the prior thermocyclic safety criterion, the rope NDT schedule and discard requirements. Two-parameter thermal criterion is used to estimate the rope technical condition under supposed foundry rate and to set the rope testing regulations.
The Russian papers are also presented by the work "Application of SHS electrode materials and technology of electrospark deposition for strengthening of rolling rolls" by A.E. Kudryashov and his colleagues from the National University of Science and Technology "MISiS". It is shown that electrospark treatment by carbide electrodes leads to increase hardness, heat resistance and wear resistance of the samples made of white iron.
Translated section of this issue consists of the papers about biomass use in the steel industry, about casting simulation using numerical processing in steel mills, about precision rolls leveling in manufacture of flat steel rolled products and some other brief materials.
The issue also includes paper "Petr Kazantsev from Pozhevsky (Pozhvinsky) works and its planning machine from the collection of Mining museum" By E.S. Tarakanova.
