Chernye Metally
The 3rd issue of "Chernye Metally" journal (2014) is opened by with the section "Iron and steel news of the world" with brief information from China, Malaysia, Korea, Ukraine, Spain and Turkey. Another section "News of metallurgical companies" observes innovations of Siemens Metals Technologies, Hoesch Hohenlimburg, Morgan Advanced Materials and Behringer GmbH.
The conventional section "Development of metallurgy in Russia and CIS countries" is presented by the article "Ukrainian iron and steel industry in crisis" by Yu. L. Adno and M. I. Krivoguz. It analyses possibilities of development of the mining and metallurgical industrial complex and it is shown that the prospects are quite not optimistic.
This publication is followed by the interview of A. V. Kusnarev, Managing Director of EVRAZ Nizhniy Tagil Iron and Steel Works; it observes the program of the enterprise development, principles of its environmental policy, features of production, market place and other themes. The interview is accompanied by two scientific and technical papers devoted to putting into practice the new technologies for melting and continuous casting of wheel steel at EVRAZ NTMK.
The March issue includes large section devoted to the 70th anniversary of Uzbek Metallurgical Enterprise: three articles observe the history of the works, its structure and current activities as well as social policy.
Within the period from 2009 to 2013, new coking plants with a total capacity of 8 million t/a were put into operation in South Korea. More details are presented in the paper "Large increase of coke production capacities in Korea" by R. Neuwirth.
The paper "Advanced blowing and stirring conditions in the BOF process" describes the new calibration method for the BOF blowing lance. A self-adapting adjustment unit is presented which is installed in the lance tip, reacts to pressure changes in the oxygen and controls the area ratio between nozzle throat and outlet cross section. With this prototype, which is currently still being developed, the blowing lance can be operated at the design point with an extended range of flowrates. The authors also analyzed bottom blowing with inert gas and found out its saving up to 30 %.
The article "Steel's contribution to a low-carbon Europe 2050" opens the section "Power engineering and ecology". This investigation has been executed together by the Boston Consulting Group and Steel Institute VDEh for the European Steel Assocoation Eurofer. The purpose of the study is to provide an objective evaluation of steel‘s contribution to a low-carbon Europe in 2050 against the background of the EU‘s request for a CO2 reduction by more than 80 % by 2050 relative to 1990. Another important chapter is the contribution of steel as a material to CO2 reduction through its application.
The paper "Diffuse dust emission for embankment and estimation of plausibility" by R. Schenk displays that different to differential algorithms, Comparative calculations led to the result that any kind of emissions, particularly also in the steel and iron industry, can be reliably evaluated with integral proceedings or calculated by means of measurements.
The issue also includes the sections "Scientific research and engineering developments" and "Metallurgical history".
