Chernye Metally
The No. 3 issue of "Chernye metally" journal is opened by its usual section "Iron and Steel News of the World".
The next section "Iron and Steel Production" includes 5 publications.
The specialists of the Z.I. Nekrasiv Institute of Ferrous metallurgy have investigated the technologies for ladle iron desulfurization. Comparison of two technologies of magnesium injection (magnesium mix with limestone and grained magnesium without additives) has been accompanied by examination of sulfur entering a converter, of slag forming parameters and of resulfurization possibilities.
S.I. Shakhov, A. S. Smolyakov, G.I. Nikolaev from VNIIMETMASH have presented the results of modernization of bloom and slab continuous casting machines in order to expand dimension and grade range, metal quality improvement and productivity rise. It is shown that reconstruction of the existing continuous casters will cost cheaper by 8-10 times comparing with purchasing the new ones.
The next publication is devoted to 75th anniversary of Magnitogorsk GIPROMEZ and written by its general director Yu. Tverskoy. He describes the main events of the company's history, its current achievements and development prospects.
A.A. Gerasimova and A.G. Radyuk from the National University of Science and Technology "MISiS" have displayed in their article the problems of billet surface quality improvement via coating of working surface of narrow walls of a thick-walled mould via gas-thermal method. It leads to decrease of amount of longitudinal, transversal and net cracks on the surface of cast slabs.
E.A. Chernyshov, A.D. Romanov and E.A. Romanova from Nizhniy Novgorod State Technical University have observed the new metallurgical technologies for production of high-strength shipbuilding steels and responsible components made of these steels. The effect of alloying elements, conditions of heat treatment and thermomechanical processing on physical and mechanical properties of such steels is shown.
The translated section includes also 5 large papers.
The specialists form Mining Institute (Leoben) and voestalpine Stahl company have examined features and limits of operation of blast furnace stoves, taking into account up-to-date ecological requirements. Computer fluid-dynamic (CFD) simulation allows to establish the optimal operating conditions.
Publication of the specialists from Salzgitter Flachstahl company and the Institute of Industrial Researches (VDEh) is devoted to measurement of slab surface temperature. Calculated and experimental data of this temperature are compared.
H. Barthold et al. has analyzed the universal surfacial model in cold rolling at Angritz Sundwig rolling mills; it is built according to the modular principle and can be applied for all rolling mills.
K. Serin and H.-J. Pehle from SMS Meer have investigated service life of tools in seamless tube production. Wear, deformation and crack propagation in plugs are examined and practical recommendations for minimization of these defects are given.
The paper "Mathematical model of a quenching process" includes study of quenching of wheel rims for high-speed trains in China. The specialists of LOI Thermprocess displayed that the proposed model allows to exclude pilot operations before and during putting into practice after transition to a new kind of products.
