Chernye Metally

The No. 7 issue of "Chernye metally" journal is opened by the conventional section "Iron and Steel News of the World".

Publications devoted to 75th anniversary of Nizhniy Tagil Iron and Steel Works, started in the issue No. 5, are finalized here by two articled with participation of A. Kushnarev, the managing director of this plant. One of these articles is a review of the plant development, and the other describes putting into practice the new technologies and equipment for heat treatment of wheels.

Two other publications in the section "Development of metallurgy in Russia and other CIS countries" inform about improvement of steel quality by modifying (the review of up-to-date methods were prepared by V. A. Golubtsov and I. V. Ryabchikov from NPP Group) and about economical features of operation of small and medium tube works in Russia in unstable conditions (A. Yu. Anisimov, D. V. Lekhnovich from the National University of Science and Technology "MISiS).

The other main journal section is "Rolling". The specialists from Dresden Technical University have analyzed the concepts of drives of rolling stands, having drive shafts or flat spindles. H. Busch from Fillnger Hüttenwerke has examined the problems of productivity rise in heavy plate mills owing to optimization of logistics of this production. H Härter has presented resource- and power-saving technologies for providing steel production facilities of Badische Stehlwerke by compressed air. U. Schamari has observed the results of the first "round table" devoted to improvement of technological flexibility of rolling mills during annual Stahldialog conference in Düsseldorf.

Materials in the sections "Power engineering" and "Steel as material" are published in this issue as well.
