The 5^th issue of “Chernye metally” journal (2016) is opened by conventional sections – “Iron and steel news of the world” and “News of metallurgical companies”.

The paper “Large ESR forging ingots and their quality in production” by G. Mercurelli et al. examines ESR unit and the first results of comparative investigations for remolten and usual ingots on the base of experience of ASO Siderurgica and ALD Vacuum Technologies.

E. Ten and O. Kol from the National university of science and technology “MISiS” presented in their paper the effect of protective coatings of surface carbonizing of steel castings. Yu. Alyushin and other authors from the same university proposed in their article mathematical models of forming processes such as bending. These models allow to analyze the features of stressed-strained state in the cases of varying both geometric parameters of used equipment and mechanical properties of billet materials.

The third article in “Rolling” section by K. Lazzaro et al. from SMS Group is devoted to analysis of mechanical and electric components of the existing driving mechanisms in the framework of modernization processes. Its importance is stipulated by current strict requirements to the main drives of rolling mills.

The prospects and problems of continuous annealing of high-strength steels with improved properties have been considered by M. Blumenau and A. Bäumer from ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe. Necessity of modernization of the continuous annealing line in order to provide mass strip production from AHSS steels with tensile strength up to 1000 MPa is shown.
