Tsvetnye Metally
The articles of this issue cover the subject of heavy, light and rare metals, as well as some theoretical and practical issues of ore beneficiation and non-ferrous metals production and processing.
The opening publication of the issue includes a 2018 review of the global non-ferrous metals market.
The Heavy Non-Ferrous Metals section features a paper on autoclave leaching of low-grade sulphide copper-zinc concentrates. The authors used the data from laboratory and pilot tests to understand how the key process parameters can change the recovery of copper and zinc. The process designed by the authors is proposed for implementation at Balkhash Zinc Plant as part of a revamping project. Part 2 of the paper, which deals with hydrothermal treatment of the above mentioned concentrates, is to be published in the February issue.
The paper published in the Rare Metals and Semiconductors section and authored by O. V. Melchakova, N. V. Pechishcheva, A. D. Korobitsyna examines the process of gallium and germanium sorption which relies on the use of rutile after mechanical activation and ultrasound processing. The findings indicate that rutile can be an efficient sorbent.
The Composites and Multipurpose Coatings section presents a paper by G. M. Voldman. The author proposes a general approach to describing the properties of disperse particles which are governed by the surface energy. The new approach helps analyse the properties of solid particles in relation to their shape and structure and come up with a more detailed description of the mechanisms and patterns behind dispersed solid-phase systems.
