Tsvetnye Metally

The April issue of Tsvetnye Metally features articles in the following sections: Economics and Management of Production; Benefication; Heavy Non-Ferrous Metals;Rare Metals, Semiconductors; Composites and Multipurpose Coatings; Materials Science; Automation.

The article that is of particular interest in the Benefication section has the following title: Developing a Selective Flotation Process for Antimony and Arsenic Sulfides in Complex Gold Ore Processing. The authors belong to the Institute of Comprehensive Exploitation of Mineral Resources of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and in this paper they describe and provide experimental evidence for a flotation technique that uses new selective reagents to separate antimony and arsenic sulfides when processing complex gold ores.

A special subject, a rare feature in contemporary technical journals, is covered by a paper authored by the editor-in-chief and entitled as: Certain Terms and Phenomena of Non-Ferrous Metallurgy. It looks at the history of bessemerizing in non-ferrous metallurgy and gives definitions of the terms and phenomena related to the bessemerizing of copper, nickel and polymetallic mattes. The author stresses personal contributions made by the process inventors and equipment designers and points out a relationship between the principal bessemerizing techniques applicable to copper mattes and the process evolution.

The reader should note the article by the National University of Science and Technology MISIS with the following title: Understanding the Production of Europium Titanate by Solid-Phase Sintering in the Presence of Carbon.

The article entitled as: The Structure of Protective Chromium Coating Produced by Thermal Evaporation in a Magnetron Discharge on Shell Tubes Made of the E110 Alloy – culminates a major research work conducted by the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI in collaboration with production branches of Rosatom over the course of a few years. The paper describes the results of an X-ray analysis of the heterogenous structure and crystallographic texture of the protective chromium coating produced by thermal evaporation in a magnetron discharge, as well as of the zirconium substrate.

The article entitled as: Understanding the Structure and Properties of Composite Aluminium Matrix Al – B4C – W and Al – B4C – WO3 Materials – reports on the technique for producing laboratory specimens of a composite radioprotective material by pressure impregnation and examines their properties and structure.

Two articles in the Materials Science section focus on research of aluminium alloys. One of the articles describes the results of a study that looked at the effect of laser shock processing on the structure of different regions of a weld joint, weld seam and the adjacent area produced by TIG welding on Al – Mg alloys. The other article describes the effect of scandium doping of welding wire on the hot cracking resistance of TIG welds made of the aluminium alloys 1420, 1565ch and 1901.
