The "Steel production and continuous casting" section opens the issue. The possibilities of using the robot to service slide gates of casting ladles are described. A modern robotic cell facilitates the work of operators when inspecting, cleaning and replacing lined elements of ladles gates. The advantages of the new slab continuous caster at the voestalpine Stahl combine over its previous modifications are shown.

The “Rolling and other metal forming processes” section describes the application of Arvedi ESP technology at the Rizhao Steel company, the possibility of changing work rolls on the mill without stopping production. A binary regression model is proposed for the probability of strip breakage during cold rolling of hot rolled strips; the model can be used to visualize the most critical areas for the operator of a cold rolling mill. Also in this section, Message 2 is published, devoted to the issues of modeling the stress-strain state of a metal during plastic forming of a sheet blank and welding of large diameter pipes. To eliminate changes in the mechanical characteristics of sheet steel during pressing, an analytical calculation of the shape of the steel blank in the production of large diameter pipes on 1020 ERW presses is proposed.

A large section is dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the Polytechnic Institute of Tula State University. It is opened by the appeal of the Polytechnic Institute director. It has been experimentally shown that the Mobile X-50 X-ray express analyzer can carry out accelerated identification of ores, ferrous metals and alloys, which is of great practical importance. The article considers the modernization of vertical milling and circular grinding machines, which made it possible to ensure the necessary productivity and accuracy of the workpiece formation. The results of theoretical studies of the stress-strain state of the material with respect to the formation of corrugations on the inner surface of the part shell at all stages are presented. An approach is proposed that allows to optimize the diagnosis of hoisting machines under the combined influence of corrosion and fatigue processes, to reduce the time and financial costs of operating equipment, and to maximize the service life of elements of the supporting metal structure. A method for calculating the labour-consuming of products in the manufacture of tools in small-scale and piece production, which does not require special knowledge and skills, is presented.

The “Economics and Finance” section contains a review on the situation of ferrous metallurgy in the context of global economic uncertainty, as well as materials on the new vision and new mission of the SMS group in the current situation; the system of cost optimization for integrated metallurgical plants developed by SSAB and SW-Development Ltd, is presented.
