Gornyi Zhurnal

The June 2020 Issue of Mining Journal is devoted to the 85th Anniversary of Norilsk Nickel — one of the world’s top producers of nonferrous metals.

All articles are grouped into three sections: technological innovations at NorNickel’s Polar Division; geomechanical studies intended to support mining operations; mining processes.

The issue opens with a contribution from the practitioners from the Center for Geological Services at NorNickel’s Polar Division on history of mining and expansion of mineral resources in the Norilsk industrial area. The article reviews appraisal periods of mineral resources on the Taimyr Peninsula and in the territory around Norilsk, and tells on people who worked in the region.

It is anticipated to arouse readers’ interest in the articles on geomechanical surveys in mines, stress–strain behavior of rock mass, geomechanical monitoring, processing of digital surface models of mine objects, safe operation of waterworks, drilling in high-stress rock mass, relationship of physical, mechanical and acoustic properties of rocks, drilling design, mine support and backfill compositions.

This issue contains contributions from personnel members of Norilsk Nickel Mining and Metallurgical Company, Gipronickel Institute, Norilskgeologia, Saint-Petersburg State Mining University, NUST MISIS College of Mining, THYSSEN SCHACHTBAU GMBH, Glavgosexpertiza of Russia (Main Department of State Expertise) and Siberian Federal University.
