Gornyi Zhurnal
The December 2020 Issue of Gornyi Zhurnal presents a rich variety of articles aimed to throw a spotlight on the industrial know-how and R&D activities in mining. The scope of this issue encompasses the risk impact on the coal industry in adverse conditions on the national and international markets, as well as under the sanctions imposed on the economy of Russia. The risk impact assessment has been performed on the Riskugol model developed at the Energy Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The novel and effective methods and means are proposed for exploration and development of gold mining waste—manmade gold-bearing deposits. The influence zones of blasting in jointed rock mass are estimated, their effects on certain activities in mineral mining and processing, as well as on geomechanical behavior in rock mass are evaluated, and recommendations are given to mitigate the adverse impact of blast zones. The research findings on recovery of phosphorus and associated metals from low-grade phosphorite ore are presented. A safe and eco-friendly flowchart is proposed for the integrated processing of gold-bearing silicate–carbonate mill tailings. This technology is applicable within any processing flow sheets of silicate–carbonate gold ore treatment with a view to recycling of waste. The application domain is substantiated for different rope shovels and hydraulic excavators, and the performance evaluation procedure of mining machines is presented. The monitoring systems of accidents and injuries in mines in Russia and in the EU countries are compared. The criticality of the effective risk management and control toward the health and survival of miners during their work is highlighted.
This issue also presents the article entitled The War and Peace of N. Melnikov. Touches to the Portrait which tracks the milestones along the way of the eminent personality in the mining science and industry — Academician of RAS Nikolai V. Melnikov.
Furthermore, in honor of the special occasion, the Journal congratulates the world-renowned researcher in the area of integrated mineral processing and conversion, member of the Editorial Board of Gornyi Zhurnal, Academician RAS Valentin A. Chanturia with the high national award—Order of Merit for the Fatherland, III degree.
