The August 2021 issue of Gornyi Zhurnal (No. 8) addresses various topics of science.
The articles in this issue:
— discuss the challenges of sustainable development of the mining industries in the modern world with regard to a new technological paradigm and the techno-science–science philosophy interaction;
— introduce history of the Mining Association of the Ural Region, its form of incorporation and major activities concerned with mining science and production;
— propose an assessment procedure for the geomechanical behavior of jointed rock mass around large cross-section underground excavations using the mathematical modeling methods;
— present design solutions on protection of open pit mine from water inflows in resumption of operation in Mir Mine, including creation of a drainage horizon with a system of upward wells;
— show a novel, safe and efficient approach to mining upland mineral deposits by means of arranging a support pillar shaped as a truncated pyramid in the weakened pit walls;
— evaluate the environmental impact of the uranium mill tailings in the region of the Caucasian Mineral Waters;
— offer a reclamation package based on the domestic and foreign experience;
— validate prospects for the reclaimed areas and their inclusions in the health-resort cluster, etc.
