Gornyi Zhurnal
The scope of the March 2022 (No. 3) issue of Gornyi Zhurnal embraces almost all traditional sections, and presents articles on various subjects, starting from the industrial know-how and finishing with advanced R&D in mining.
The articles in this issue:
— present a new parametric model of the geomechanical behavior of rock mass during longwall top coal caving and illustrate feasibility of detecting zones of increased overburden pressure applied to mine support systems and on adjacent rocks;
— propose a new express-control method for adjacent rock mass jointing using optical scanning of well walls by discrete photosensitive cells, which enables real-time identification of traverse cracks, as well as their angles and propagation;
— discuss electricity tariff regulations and show some key areas of potential energy saving in the mining industry;
— describe a new procedure to design pitwall slopes within the ultimate pit limit at the preserved safety of mining;
— put forward a blasting technology with utilization of mining waste;
— report the accomplished research on engineering of a new screw drill and illustrate the efficiency of this tool in permafrost drilling in the Arctic.
Furthermore, the Journal continues a series of publications to commemorate the Gornyi Zhurnal’s 200th anniversary (1825–2025). The articles of this issue describe events connected with the foundation of the first periodical on science and technology in Russia—Gornyi Zhurnal.The published materials reproduce the solemn meeting held on March 21, 1825 and devoted to the Academic Committee intentionally established at the Mining and Salt Department for the preparation and publishing of the Journal, and describe the meeting to honor the first anniversary of the Committee on March 20, 1826. Activity of Russian specialists in mining and geology in China, Japan and USA after the October 1917 Revolution is discussed, and their contribution to the geology and mining sciences of these countries is highlighted.
