Full-color thematicissue with published materials, which widely illustrate the problems of mining, processing and usage of natural facing stone. In particular, imperfection of legal framework for licensing of search, estimation, exploration and development of deposits of natural stone is described. The examples of natural stone usage as a decorative facing facades of buildings, in the manufacture of stoves and fireplaces, and also in the exact optical instrumention of measurement, calibration and test equipmentsare shown.
International experience of companies, realized cost-effective extraction, processing and export of block stone is widely represented. Some useful for Russian producers of facing stone approaches to testing and estimation the quality of blocks for the design, technology and technical equipageof stone extraction, supervision and control systems on the part of individual states are presented. A wideoverviewof ancient underground method of block stone extraction in Europe, USA and Brazil is done. The experience of underground mine designing for extraction of blocks of marble on Sardinia island is shown, and ecological and economic expediency of underground extraction of natural stone is substantiated.
