Chernye Metally
Two publications about development of tube production are presented in this issue. The first of them is devoted to evaluation of stability and sustainability of the technological process of manufacturing tubes for special purposes at Pervouralsk Novotrubny Works. The results of statistic and harmonic analysis are used for quality management in realization of technological processes of tube production for nuclear power engineering. Applying the complex approach combining creation of new technologies and methodology of control allowed to develop production of stainless tubes with high-preciseinternal diameter and surface quality.
Another article "Study of deformation, kinematic and power parameters in the process of continuous rolling of seamless tubes" by A. Vydrin and V. Shirokov gives description of influence of tension level on the range of variation of tube wall thickness with nominal thickness 6.45 mm and 7.2 mm is shown. Number of tubes from 1526 (26G2) and 4125 (25 KhM) steels was 12 and 10 in the batches with a.m. wall thickness respectively. It was concluded that increase of interstand tension leads to improvement of tube precision in wall thickness.
The foreign papers are collected mainly in the section "Iron and steel production". T. Korz and H. Wulfert observed economical procedure for re-utilization and recycling of oil containing mill scale from hot metal production. The patented technology developed by Loesche in 2003 was quickly welcomed by the industry and is currently being successfully used in ironwork PCI systems. V. Sciopolo, I. Todorovic and A. Vasquez presented the paper "Improving BF-BOF performance and safety using a slop detection system". Early detection of the onset of slopping is a critical tool in the operation of a BOF. Tenova Goodfellow’s slop detection system (SDS) provides the steelmaker with a proactive system to increase yield and productivity while reducing operating costs. R. Lamm and P. Wintjens described 3-D measuring system for hot ladles of torpedo shape for laser measuring of residual thickness of lining in hot ladles of torpedo shape, using for hot iron transportation from blast furnaces to steelmaking shop via railroad. The process is based on simple and reliable approach that can use laser head in hot ladle of torpedo shape at the temperature of environment up to 1000 °C.
