Conventional section "Development of metallurgy in Russia and CIS countries" is opened in this issue by the paper describing investigation of the effect of heat treatment on varying phase composition, hardness, capacity to friction strengthening and abrasive wear resistance for complexly alloyed white iron (based on alloys of Fe-C-V and Fe-C-V-Cr systems). This investigation has been prepared by E. Petrochenko from Magnitogorsk State Technical University.
The section is continued by the article "Results of operation of mould tubes designed by "VM-Sinus" at Byelorussian Metallurgical Works" by A. Demin, V. Nikolaev et al. The work has been undertaken together with the specialists from VNIIMETMASH. Publication of the authors from Karaganda State Industrial University and ArcelorMittal Temirtau is devoted to analysis of causes of damages of work rolls at cold rolling mill in sheet rolling shop No. 3 at ArcelorMittal Temirtau. Influence of chemical elements on resistance of work rolls is studied.
High-duty materials for automotive industry are often operated at ultimate level of their parameters; therefore, even small technological defect can lead to reclamation of large lots of articles. The paper "Non-destructive testing of steel long products - current status" presents the results of joint work executed by the Steel Institute of VDEh and the Committee of Alloyed Structural Steels.
The section "Power engineering and environment protection" in the issue is presented by describing the pilot technology of usage of diesel engine with auto-ignition allowing to use technological gases with low calorific capacity effectively and ecologically acceptable at medium-scale and small-scale iron and steel works. These researches have been done by the Institute of Applied Investigations of VDEh and Schnell Motoren AG.
