The journal section "Development of metallurgy in Russia and CIS" includes two papers. The first is "Study of physical-chemical properties of pyrite cinders and their behaviour with different kinds of reducing agents" by N. Durov, V. Korovushkin, G. S. Podgorodetskiy et al. The results of analysis of iron-containing phases were obtained using Mössbauer spectroscopy and are presented together with the measuring data of fractional magnetic susceptibility.
Another article by An. V. Serebryakov, Al. V. Serebryakov et al. describes the technological actions on increase of accuracy and quality of the inner surface of thin-walled tubes of corrosion-resistant austenitic steels processed at the finish stage by drawing on fixed mandrel. Designed tooling is manufactured and tested in the production of tubes of several sizes, demonstrating the effectiveness of the stabilization process short mandrel drawing.
The foreign section covers main traditional journal topics, such as "Iron- and Steelmaking", "Casting" and "Rolling". They are devoted respectively to design and commissioning of the new ThyssenKrupp CSA steel plant in Brazil; CSP flex technology that is a decisive advantage of SMS Siemag’s technological innovation and enables the production of thick, high-strength micro-alloyed pipe grades, increases the capacity of a two-strand plant to 4 million t/a and allows the production of thin strip in endless mode as well as a further reduction of energy consumption; the Edge Tech inspection system delivering real-time images to monitor trim quality of strips and allowing mill personnel to see the smallest details of flaws on the edges of trimmed coils.
"Power Engineering and Technology" section includes the papers about increase of energy efficiency at the ArcelorMittal Hamburg steel plant (by M. Hölling, U. Braun, A. Jüchter, J. Pröiβ), continuous improvement of technologies for achieving the best performances for Tenova, to just be able to get close to the ambitious Kyoto Protocol and Copenhagen Conference target (by G. Nova) and about the concepts for energy recovery in mini-mills on ther base of the example of activities of Badische Stahl Engineering (BSE) (by A.-P. Hollands, K. Libera et al.).
In economical section, H. J. Kerkhoff presented two reports: "Competitive iron and steel industry as a pledge of transition to the new power sources" and "Global steel industry: actual challenges and prospects".
