We can't imagine at present time medicine and technics without usage of ultrasonic devices. A lot of them are used in medicine for diagnostics (sonography, pregnancy examination) and therapy (crushing kidney stones, removal of tooth stone). In technical industries, ultrasonic is applied as conventional method for material testing, component cleaning, distance measuring. Useful properties of ultrasonic in different media are observed. New areas of ultrasonic usage are more and more accessible in the iron and steel industry. Application of ultrasonic has many serious advantages: it is not dangerous and is easily subjected for management. EdgeReco system for detecting of position of strip edges and strip itself using air ultrasonic has  been developed by BFI Betriebstechnik GmbH and described in the paper. Measuring concentration of pickling media using ultrasonic propagating on-line in water is described in details as example. In this connection, technical solutions on the base of usage of ultrasonic measuring devices have favourable prospects. Three typical examples of ultrasonic application are presented: consumption measurement, level measurement, detection of material defects.
