Abstract

The purpose of the work is the prognosis of friction conditions in rolling contact of bearing units of roll guide of slab continuous casting machine in dependence of lubricant type, method of its delivery to friction unit and technological parameters of casting. Based on the results of undertaken theoretical investigations, lubrication procedures for bearing units of roll sections at continuous casting machines have been developed with usage of “oil-air” lubricating system. Concluding from experimental researches, the following proposal were formulated: to conduct operation of “oil-air” lubricating system with lubricant having toughness grade not lower than 460; when using lubricant having toughness grade not lower than 460, to increase duration of its pumping in the mixing unit up to 30 seconds; when using lubricant having toughness grade not lower than 680, to increase duration of its pumping in the mixing unit up to 45 seconds; to hold air pressure in the system in the range 0.2–0.4 atmospheres. Application of proposed conditions will allow to decrease wear of bearings and to increase durability of bearing supports in general. Analysis of the obtained data has shown that usage of ductile lubricating material in the bearing units of continuous casting machines leads to frequent roll jamming due to lubricant coking. Putting into practice of “oil-air” lubricating systems can be considered as the most suitable and prospective technical solution for elimination of the deficiencies mentioned in the paper.
