Abstract | The effect of a constant magnetic field on the kinetics of creep of polycrystalline copper and creep rate, being determined at the resulting stage of the process have been experimentally investigated. The studies of the creep process are carry out at room temperature and constant tensile stress using the upgraded testing machine for analysis of plastic deformation of metals. Polycrystalline copper of cylindrical shape was used as samples. Preliminary sample preparation consisted in their annealing at 700 оC for 2 h in air with subsequent cooling in water required for removing a scale. The initial structure of the material was isotropic grains of average size of 21 μm. The source of the magnetic field was a permanent magnet, being able to control the magnetic field 0–0.6 T. The main results are the experimental data on a weak static magnetic field influence on the creep of polycrystalline copper at room temperature. It has been revealed that copper exposure to the magnetic field results in as significant reduction in the rate of creep in the linear stage of the process. The absence of a magnetic field effect on the strain value up to failure has been determined. However, the time required to achieve the same deformation degree is different for different parameters of the magnetic field exposure. In addition, the dependence of the creep rate on the magnetic effects and magnetic field stages has been detected. Magnetically induced relaxations of the dislocation structure and long-range internal stress fields with the effect of a magnetic field on polycrystalline copper subject to creep were hypothesized. |
