Geology and development of oil and gas deposits
ArticleName Cold water flooding as a possible method of yamal heavy oil production
ArticleAuthor V. E. Baranov.
Abstract

The article considers various methods of heavy oil production in terms of their applicability to the deposits, discovered in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District in the Upper Cretaceous sediments of Pokur formation. A brief description of these deposits is provided. The existing methods for the development of such reservoirs are based on the experience of Canada, one of the leaders in the development of heavy oil resources. As one of the recommended methods, there is more detaily considered a method, based on the cold water injection. There are described the peculiarities of the flooding of the sticky oil deposits. As an example, there is considered the usage of this method with the successful development of one Canadian deposit in the layer “Wainwright B” of the Viking-Kinsella deposit.
