The paper describes the stages of works conducted in the field of mastering the steelmaking technology for production of high-strength reinforced bars. Technological techniques allowing to decrease substantially the level of defects in rolling billets and, consequently, to provide high level of technological processing by customers. Development of this technology has started at Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works from production of reinforced bars of 85-FYu steel, then of 80-KhFYu and 80R steels, their chemical composition are presented. Undertaken investigations have shown that reinforced bars of 80R steel with patenting before drawing are characterized by better ductile properties comparing with reinforced bars of 80KhfYu steel and reinforced bars manufactured at voestalpine, Austria. Typical loading diagram for this steel is displayed and it is concluded that 80R steel meets the requirements of 1400K grade. The results of processing of reinforced bars of 80KhFYu and 80R steels at the works for production of concrete sleepers BetElTrans have shown better workability of reinforced bars of 08R steel comparing with 08KhFYu steel. Additionally, through analysis of steelmaking technology for the a.m. steels has been conducted, including melting, ladle processing and continuous casting. Corresponding recommendations about optimization of chemical composition (restriction of Si and Al content) and content of alloying elements are given.
