Abstract | The article includes the basic technical characteristics of copperplated welding wire, its advantages compared with non-copper-plated wire are given as well as technical parameters of the galvanized low-carbon wire. The main technical requirements for copper-plated wel ding wire are formulated as follows: copper coating should be thorough, smooth and clean; it can be characterized with sufficient strength (coating should not be cracked and exfoliated from basic metal during wire spo oling on a round core with six-fold diameter); coating thickness should not exceed 0.15 μm; total copper content in a coating and in base metal (not alloyed with copper) should not exceed 0.3%. Small-sized technological units for high-speed contact copper coating of welding wire with dia meter 0.8–2 mm and high-speed galvanizing of low-carbon heat-trea ted wire with 1 mm diameter are presented. Mechanical properties of galvanized wire have been optimized to provide its technological para meters in application as wire hood and can be recommended in the following frameworks: tensile strength 30–42 kgF/mm2, relative elongation not less than 18% (on 100 mm base), zinc coating mass not less than 35 g/m2. It is noted that commercial manufacture of the developed technological units has not been organized, however, several experimental units for self usage have been fabricated, as well as one unit for Volgograd Steel Wire and Rope Works and several units for small business. |
