Abstract

This article describes the electrolytic and silicothermal methods of magnesium production in the Middle and Northern Urals. This description allows to make a comparative analysis of these methods from the point of view of technical-technological and technical-economic characteristics of production. On the basis of the carried out analysis of magnesium industry in Russia and abroad, there were carried out the calculations of technical-economic and efficiency indicators of two variants of investment projects, which suppose the involving of electrolytic and silicothermal magnesium production method. These calculations allow to make a conclusion about the relative efficiency of silicothermal method of magnesium production. The carried out analysis of magnesium production methods is based on the author's method of calculation of indicators of commercial efficiency of capital investments in magnesium production. Peculiarity of this method is calculation of discounted cash flows of investment project, which make it possible to calculate the integral values of commercial efficiency indicators. The offered technical solution for recuperation of waste gas of magnesium recovery furnace by silicothermal method can reach the significant savings by reduction of energy consumption and waste gas emissions, which makes the method more environmentally friendly and competitive (in comparison with existing ones). The considered author's method of evaluation of efficiency of investment projects in magnesium industry, together with results of calculation of indicators of efficiency of electrolytic and silicothermal magnesium production methods, can be useful for specialists and executive officers in magnesium industry, investors and scientific community
