RF Trade Office in Ukraine (Kiev, Ukraine): |
Abstract | The Ukrainian economy is in the deep recession since 2013. Taking into account its permanent negative dynamics in construction, agriculture and transport, the national government forecast very low rates of GDP increase. The paper analyses possibilities of development of the mining and metallurgical industrial complex and it is shown that the prospects are quite not optimistic. Continuing recession at global markets forces the government to discuss again introduction of anticrisis measures like those that helped the Ukrainian mining and metallurgical complex to overcome decay in the beginning of 1990-ies. Reestablishment of the Ministry of industrial policy and forming of the work group for examination of the state support to the Ukrainian mining and metallurgical enterprises can be considered as a positive step. 2 scenarios (pessimistic and optimistic) of the further development of the Ukrainian metallurgy have been suggested by Boris Paton, the academician of the Ukrainian academy of sciences. The first includes partial modernization of the existing technologies, gradual closure of open hearth furnaces and increase of part of basic oxygen converters. The second one is based on large investments in putting into practice the state-of-art production facilities. However, it is necessary to take into account very unstable current political situation, having direct negative eff ect on economical state and prospects. |
