Abstract | Steel slags do not have a distinct hydraulicity. This is the reason why they yet have not found any popularization as composite material in cement. Instead LD and electric arc furnace slags are especially applied in road construction in unbound base layers as well as in bonded bituminous roadbases and wearing courses. The aim of a major research project at Loesche GmbH was and is the modifi cation of these slags to generate products with high practical value properties. By modifi cation a hydraulically highly reactive material with the recovery of the metal content in the same process can be produced. Presented results of investigations testify that the process developed by Loesche allows to obtain the material with high alite content (up to 66 %) and high reaction capacity from converter slag, together with extraction of metal component at reduction conditions in the electric arc furnace. In the process of reduction electric melting, 20-30 % of mass. part of metallic iron is forming, depending on iron content in slag. This iron can be utilized in 100 % metallic scrap, partly during melting process, partly during consequent grinding. In order to continue large-scale semi-industrial testings with usage of different steelmaking slags, as well as for confi rmation of practical realization of this new process in industrial conditions, several representatives of industrial corporations have been included in the Loesche research group. |
