Abstract | The article reviews the investigation results in the area of production of organic free flowing additives for dispersed mineral materials. An industrial raw material is peat; a treatment material is Portland cement. A free flowing effect is achieved by hydrophobic modification of the material surface. A hydrophobic modification process involved extracting bitumen components from peat by means of thermochemical destruction of organic matter and applying them in the form of film coatings on the surface of cement mineral particles. The film thickness is 2 to 12 nm; it is sufficient for effective cement protection against liquid and vaporous moisture. The electron-microscope investigation of modified particles revealed a high content of carbon (carbon-bearing component) in the subsurface layer; it is a factor that provides a highly hydrophobic effect. Building materials made on the basis of hydrophobicmodified cements partially retain hydrophobic properties and keep a reduced water absorption capacity. The application of the method elaborated allows increasing cement and dry building mixtures storage life manifold without losing their physical and chemical properties, the environment of high atmospheric moisture capacity being included. |
