Abstract | Basic oxygen converters with lining of periclase-carbonaceous refractories are used for steel making in the converter shop of Nizhniy Tagil Iron and Steel Works — “EVRAZ NTMK” JSC. Investigation of slags taken from lined walls allowed to explain their increased aggressive effect to refractory lining. Substantial composition and structure of periclase-carbonaceous refractories have been studied; it allowed to formulate the basic requirements to refractory lining supplied to Nizhniy Tagil Iron and Steel Works and to rise resistance of converter lining. Taking in account technological features of steel production in the converter shop, laboratorial examination of slag resistance of periclase-carbonaceous refractories has been conducted via crucible method. Based on the undertaken investigation, the following criteria for supplied periclasecarbonaceous refractories have been formulated: (1) usage of chemically pure molten periclase powder with minimal con-tent of impurities (silicon oxides and iron oxides) as raw material for refractory production; (2) mandatory application of antioxidants; (3) usage of organic binding with rather high coke reminder. |
