Abstract |
The statistical analysis of the stop-watch reading data on operation of tangential-rotary cutter bits in various geological and geotechnical conditions of coal deposits and in underground excavations has allowed classification of all types of cutter bit failures and placing them into two groups — design faults and operation faults, with the identified causes of failure of tangential-rotary cutter bits in each group. The typical causes of the design faults are: even wear of housing and tungsten-carbide insert; fall-out of tungsten-carbide insert, damage of tungsten-carbide insert, dulling of acting face of tungsten-carbide insert. The article analyzes mechanisms of initiation and growth of such defects and identifies possible ways of removal. The scope of the studies embraces causes of the operation faults due to critical wear, breakage and loss of tangential-rotary cutter bits. The analysis of the causes of such faults allows planning ways of fixing this problem. The study has been supported by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, in the framework of the Federal Targeted Program “R&D in Priority Areas of Advance in Science and Technology in Russia for 2014–2020” under the topic “Experimental Design of Combination Tools Using Super Hard Composites for Efficient Rock Breakage” (Agreement No. 14.607.21.0028 dated June 6, 2014). |
