Abstract | Due to the enrichment of impurities within slags or dusts, a proper material recycling of these products is not always easy. Concerning BOF dusts, zinc is the limiting factor for the internal recycling at the integrated metallurgical works. The RecoDust process has been developed at the Heat treatment chair in the Leoben Mining university. It allows to separate these dusts and other dust-type wastes in an iron-rich slag phase and a zinc-rich dust fraction. Liquid slag, the main replacing agent of iron ore, can be returbed in the primary process. The forming zinc dust is an applicable secondary resource for zinc production. These two products can be used as secondary resources within the iron and zinc industry with high added value. Complete processing is conducted in accordance with so-called Zero-Waste concept. At present time the industrial pilot unit is creating. The results of simulation should be verified by consequent experiments. In the future it will be connected with several challenges and problems in such fields as choice of refractory lining, designing technique and location of equipment. |
