Abstract | With the decline in the overall level of occupational injuries over the past decade, the state of working conditions in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) is not satisfactory, the level of occupational risks remains high, increasing the number of workplaces not meeting hygienic norms, there is a high level of injuries. Most accidents occur without direct exposure to natural and technological hazards, due to insecure activities of personnel (deviation from official and technological procedures, violation of safety rules, lack of coordination, negligence), which suggests unsatisfactory organization of the production process. Almost annual are the repeated cases of falling of dump trucks and bulldozers from dumps despite special attention paid by supervisors to the compliance of rules and design solutions. As the analysis shows, the most hazardous professions in the mining industry are: heading men, mining equipment operators, electrical engineering staff (underground mining). Prevailing in the mining industry occupational risks do not change over the years, the most traumatic and ‘risky’ professions are known. However, the situation has not changed. This suggests that a more systematic approach to the protection of workers from occupational risks is required. The structure of causes of injuries is typical for the majority of accidents in mining, which indicates insufficient competence of personnel in the implementation of production activities and safety maintenance. A mine manager is first of all in charge for the mine safety. Therefore, a mine management is obliged: to shape and document safety policy, goals, objectives and program, to allocate responsibilities and authorities of diff erent level head officers that administer, direct and control mine safety activities, and to notify personnel on that; to control timing of the safety program implementation with the periodical revision and amendment of activities; to define the nature and extent of occupational risks, and to manage, limit, reduce and eliminate them so that to ensure safe and trouble-free work of a mine. |
